Team-based Medical Education Development Workshop. Bethel Medical School, Addis Ababa, November 2012

Bethel Medical School, Addis Ababa was the venue for  a 4-day workshop which addressed curriculum, assessment, teaching and learning, simulation, quality and distance learning. Dr Yigeramu, Dr Legesse and Professor Gordon Williams were key in organising and hosting the event. The meeting was attended by participants from Bethel and Yekatit 12 Medical Schools, as well as jhpiego. Everyone greatly enjoyed a visit to the Bethel Children’s Village orphanage. The teaching team included Prof Janet Grant [CenMEDIC], Dr Catherine O’Keeffe [London University], Dr Tony Errichetti [New York College of Osteopathic Medicine], Dr Susan Jamieson [University of Glasgow], Dr Jack Boulet [FAIMER, Philadelphia], Patricia le Rolland [Quality and Standards adviser, UK],  and Dr Rupert Levy [student learning adviser, UK].

Recently, CenMEDIC held a writing retreat in the UK. Here are some pictures from that event.

FAIMER Regional Institute 2012, PSG, Coimbatore India

Between April 14^th and 24^th, FAIMER Fellows from 2010 and 2011 joined their new 2012 colleagues in Coimbatore to develop their medical education skills and knowledge. The 2012 Fellows planned the projects they will implement over the coming year. The 2011 Fellows presented poster reports of their completed projects and the 2010 Fellows took part in a day’s study of research methods, led by Janet [who was lucky enough to be given a box of earrings and other jewellery – thank you!],  and considered how to sustain their work. The Fellows were supported by mentors and tutors from across India and beyond. The Institute is led by Dr Thomas Chacko, supported by Dr Saira Banu and a wonderful administrative team.

Visit to Pakistan, March 2010

Janet, and colleagues from the United States,  recently visited Islamabad where she heard about the excellent work of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, attended the Conference of the Association for Excellence in Medical Education and visited Shifa Medical and Nursing College. It was an impressive visit and special  thanks go to  Prof. Dr. Syed Sibitul Hasnain [President, PMDC],  Dr Nadeem Akbar [Registrar of the PMDC], Professor Umar Ali Khan [AEME], Prof. Dr. Ghulamqadir Kazi [Al-Nafees College of Medicine, Isra University] and Professor Muhammad Aslam [Shifa College].
